Home Depot can be chic?

Hello all! I’ve been experimenting with materials lately and I’ve discovered a fantastic place to buy jewelry supplies… yes.. Home Depot! Don’t believe me? Check out my last post with pictures from my new line, Industrial Chic.

After walking around aisles for what seemed like forever, I found many cool little things that I could incorporate into my jewelry. Brass hex nuts, brass bolts, brass washers, copper crimp rings, tension pins and more.

I got the idea from seeing this listing by smartfox on Etsy:

Which led me to search for beads on Etsy. Here are ones similar the necklace above. I was quite surprised when I saw the prices for faceted brass beads (similar to the ones below.) I knew I wanted to get these beautiful beads, but had to come up with another option.

These beautiful faceted brass beads can perfectly be substituted with 3mm brass hex nuts which cost about $2 for a small box of 50. What a deal!

I decided to make my own little addition to the style by adding 3mm brass washers in between each nut. These run about the same price. Here’s a picture of the brass washer:

The result? Here’s one of my new listings in the shop, “Industrial Chic - Bold with Bolts”

And another:

What I did to make this is use a 15in black ball-chain and string it through three brass washers and three brass hex nuts. Don’t be afraid to get much more creative, either!

Check out some of these beautiful listings on Etsy by some very creative and talented artisans!
